Baptisms are sometimes known as 'Christenings'. In our Group of Parishes, they are held at 11.30am after the main service on a Sunday morning. They may also be held during a Sunday morning service if preferred. You do not have to live in this parish and there are no age limits. It is usual to have three godparents, two of which are the same sex as the child, but godparents must themselves have been baptised.
There is no charge for baptisms, but a certificate can be obtained for a small fee.
Please apply for an application form, to book a date and arrange a meeting by phoning 07803 875638 or by email to Debbie Reynolds on deborahreynolds365@gmail.com.
What happens in the Baptism service?
You and the Godparents publicly promise to do your best to raise your child to follow Jesus, as part of the wider Church family. The congregation welcomes your child and promises to support, encourage and pray for him or her, and for you as a family.
For the baptism itself, the priest will ask you to bring your child to the front of the Church or the font, containing the water for baptism. The priest will ask you to make some promises on behalf of your child. After that your child is baptiized, and then welcomed into the Church.
Don't worry about things going smoothly, the priest will make sure that you know what to do and when as he will have discussed this with you at a meeting beforehand.
