Gosberton Good Companions

History:

A local club for the over 55's still going after 59 years (so 2019 will be our Diamond Anniversary. Watch this space for special announcements!)

Gosberton Good Companions is still going after 59 years. Started in 1959 by the then incumbent of St Peter & St Paul's Church, the Revd John Sangster and a committee of 16 local people. It catered for the over 60's, providing companionship and somewhere to meet for a couple of hours for card games, a chance for a 'good old gossip' and then light refreshments.

The club initially met in Gosberton Youth Club hall every Friday, but have since moved to Gosberton Public Hall where parking is easier. The club has evolved to cater for over 55's and Bingo is the game of choice these days. Tea, biscuits and a raffle are provided half way through the proceedings. There is also an auction of local produce, groceries and goodies, all provided by the club members. The proceeds go back into the club to help pay for the premises, outings and meals. The club now meets on alternate Tuesdays between 13.45pm and 16.15pm.

From April to November, members monthly coach trips are organised, on non-club days, and the members choose where they want to go. Non members are invited - subject to space.

Meals are also organised three times a year for Spring, Harvest and Christmas. The Christmas meal also includes some form of entertainment, a raffle and the auctioning of the table decorations and surplus Christmas cake. A good time is usually had by all.

Our members range in age from 55 to 90+ and we currently have a committee of 10. The members are a lively bunch of people and are very friendly and enthusiastic about their club. If you are looking for some companyor something to do once a fortnight, do come along and see if you would like to join us. There is no pressure, just come and give us a try for two or three meetings and see if our friendly club would suit your needs.

There is a nominal annual fee and a fee per meeting to cover the cost of tea and biscuits (which includes two raffle prizes), plus reduced charges towards coach trips and meals.

The Good Companions are planning excursions for this year. Ticket prices remain at £10 for members and £12 for non-members.

If you are interested in joining us on an excusrion. please contact Arthur Gold on 01775 718517. For non-members who are interested, your name will be put on a list on a first come, first served basis. There will be several pick up points around the village.
